Our Story

It has been four years since the acquisition of our former startup, Oceanbolt. When we founded Oceanbolt, we had a vision to provide visibility into the opaque trade flows of dry bulk commodities. The market opportunity was clear; build a data platform that creates a neutral source of truth of trading patterns for both sides of the trade. With Oceanbolt there was no more guesswork about what was being moved by the world's merchant bulk fleet. No more relying on dated export statistics. No need to use spreadsheets to follow the fleet. Just real-time insight into bulk commodity movements allowing our clients to act instantly as markets moved.

As we built Oceanbolt, we saw how information surrounding every bulk trading decision lives scattered across emails, spreadsheets, chat threads, and software systems. Contextualizing this dispersed information is critical to making good trading decisions. That work is tedious, repetitive and time consuming.

As large language models (LLMs) gained popularity, a question popped up in our mind: What if LLMs could read every relevant email, contract, spreadsheet, and message thread and instantly connect the dots? No detail missed. No context lost. Just faster, better decisions. Our next mission became clear; build AI-powered tools to support existing workflows in bulk shipping and commodity trading businesses. To pursue this mission, we are launching Oceanagent. Bulk commodity shipping and trading does not need another dashboard. But we believe that artificial intelligence will help bulk shipping and trading teams work faster and better.
